The Korean manufacturer sold a record 86 million handsets in the last quarter of 2013

Today seems to be the day of big financials with Apple revealing some bad news from its own camp. In the meantime Samsung has some more positive news. The company shifted 86 million handsets in the last three months of 2013. A rise in sales means a rise in the market share which gave Samsung 29.6% of the global smartphone market, higher than closest competitor Apple.

Reuters revealed Apple’s market share dropped to 17.6% for the period. That was a drop of 5% at the same time where Chinese brands Huawei and Lenovo have both increased in market share. Both companies jumped up to third and fourth place overtaking LG for the last quarter of 2013.

Apple announced less growth than expected for the last three months of 2014 and as a result the company’s share price plummeted. Investors have been used to rapid growth but its thought the company’s growth is dropping fast.

Samsung almost sold as many smartphones as the entire PC market sold desktops in Q4 2009.

Figures wise, Apple came second selling 51 million iPhone handsets in Q4 2013. Huawei sold 16.6 million whilst Lenovo sold 13.6 million with each taking 5.7% and 4.7% of the market respectively.
