Sony Xperia Smartphone Leaked. Is This The Z1 Successor?

Sony could announced a new Xperia smartphone at Mobile World Congress

Sony took to CES to announce the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact but there could be another Xperia handset on the way at Mobile World Congress in February.

Images of a mystery new Xperia device have been posted on the XDA Developers forum by a user called iRimas, which some believe to be a successor to the Xperia ZL. iRimas claims the device has a 5.2-inch display, runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and is even slimmer than the original Xperia Z1.

There’s also that beast of a 20.7MP camera on the device called the D6503. There are a few differences on the handset which make us believe it could be real. First up there's a trio of large speaker grilles at the bottom of the phone, different from all other Xperia Z1 handsets.

There’s also a move of the lanyard eyelet which is now on the left rather than the right. This could still just be an earlier prototype of the original Xperia Z1 but XDA Developers is well known for getting the details spot on and we’d love to be proved wrong.

We asked Sony if this device is a real leak but it replied stating it doesn’t comment on rumours or speculation. Sony didn’t outright deny the idea of this being a new Xperia handset so we’re pretty sure it may be the real deal.

We’ll keep a look out for any other details and update you as and when. Otherwise we’ll have to wait until MWC 2014 which takes place in Barcelona between February 24 and 27.
