iPad Mini Voted Most Fragile Gadget

Apple’s iPad mini has been revealed as the most fragile gadget whilst the iPad Air came in third

When purchasing a gadget not everyone takes into account the breakability factor. Apple’s iPad mini has been voted the most fragile gadget on the market right now.

In research carried out by insurance firm SquareTrade Europe, a number of different devices were tested to see how fragile each was. Each device was rated on factors such as design, weight, construction, water resisitance and “grip-ability”. It was then followed with the concrete test which involved dropping the device from a certain height onto a solid block of concrete.

The two results were then combined to give each device a “breakability score”.

The iPad mini came out worst and was voted the most breakable gadget available. Second was the first smartphone on the list, the Samsung Galaxy S4 which was then followed by Apple’s iPad Air tablet.

Coming in fourth position was the Samsung Galaxy S3 which was followed by the iPhone 5C in fifth. The Nexus 7 2012 edition came in sixth place whilst the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 came in at seven.

Apple’s final product in the top 10 was the iPhone 5S at eight, the Nexus 7 2013 edition came in ninth and in tenth position was the Motorola Moto X.

Kevin Gillan, managing director of insurance firm SquareTrade Europe told The Telegraph, "We are all investing in more and more technology, so when we do we want to make sure that we are going to get our money's worth. By putting devices through tests that replicate real life situations, we want to help people make smart choices when it comes to choosing gadgets and ensure they are covered against accidental damage."

All in all, Apple came out worst with four of its gadgets in the top 10, three alone were in the top five. Samsung didn’t show a much better performance with 3 gadgets in the top 10, two in the top five. Google's Nexus series then took two of the places whilst Motorola only had one.
