Sony's set the trend and now one phone a year isn’t fast enough, with Apple reportedly getting in on the quicker turnaround plan. According to some sources Apple is beginning to speed up the production cycle of its iPhone and iPad device. The Wall Street Journal reports Apple is poaching HTC engineers away from the firm in an attempt to speed up the development cycle for Apple products.
Apple has reportedly been head hunting each engineer but it’s currently unclear how many the company has employed. Most of the engineers have been Taiwan-based though.
According to The Journal, Apple needs the engineers to contribute to work on the iPhone and iPad parts in the region. It’s not confirmed but it may also be to help improve the factory conditions which have been criticised heavily over the past 12 months.
Apple has kept to yearly product launches for a long time now especially with products such as the iPhone and iPad. We have been hearing rumours of the next iPhone coming in July this year. There are also rumours of two iPhone models coming once again this year which may launch in July and then in September.
If Apple is poaching these people it poses a couple of questions. How will HTC deal with losing a number of its key engineers when it is already struggling to keep up with the larger manufacturers? Then there’s whether Apple is planning to narrow the gap between product launches or begin to launch more products each year?
The rumours of two iPhone 6 models suggest it would be the latter. If Apple has only just begun employing these engineers though it’s unlikely to affect the iPhone 6 which is already rumoured for released in July. Instead, it’s probably in order to prepare for the remainder of 2014 and the following year.
