When announcing the HTC One M8, the company highlighted the new Sense 6.0 user interface. It was also mentioned at the press conference that HTC will update the existing HTC One family to the latest UI software build.
We asked HTC when the update would be coming but we got the response of “we will announce the update in time.”
Now a leaked table has suggested HTC’s original One family will receive the update to Sense 6.0 before the end of Q2 2014. The family of handsets includes the HTC One, HTC One Dual Sim, HTC One Max, HTC One mini and HTC Butterfly S.
According to the table it’ll be coming in June or July. All of these handsets already have Android 4.4. KitKat in most markets which sits alongside Sense 5.5. Once Sense 6.0 comes along there won’t be an Android update to accompany it.
But what about the 2012 HTC line of phones? It’s looking like updates to KitKat and Sense 5.5. are off the cards. According to the table the HTC One XL is currently under investigation for an update but not to Sense 6.0.
The table also explains the HTC Desire 601 and Desire 700 will receive the KitKat and Sense 5.5 combination in April 2014.
We’ll have to wait for HTC to officially comment on the update schedule to know for sure, but we would assume for now that it's accurate - this matches HTC's update behaviour in the past where the company tends to focus primarily on its most recent devices.
