Google made comments at MWC 2014 indicating that another Nexus handset wouldn’t appear before the third quarter of the year, but plans for the presumed Nexus 6 may already be underway and it’s alleged LG may be handling production once again.
Which of course makes a lot of sense, as the Korean company has done a cracking job with the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5.
There have already been rumours in circulation suggesting Lenovo could be working on the next Nexus phone, but Gizmodo’s German branch claims to have information suggesting this isn’t true and that LG is the one to watch once again.
According to Gizmodo’s “business-related source”, the Nexus 6 will be a “lightweight” version of the currently still in-development LG G3 flagship expected in June this year. It’s not clear what the source means by lightweight as this could either indicate a device which is physically more streamlined or could be a reference to the hardware – maybe a slightly lower-rated chip to ensure affordability.
The source also said LG was working with Google on a Nexus smartwatch, although it wasn’t explained whether this would appear in tandem with the Nexus 6, though some earlier reports indicated Google is prepping the wearable for either a Spring launch or a reveal at its Google I/O conference in June. Previous reports also indicate that the smartwatch may have a primary emphasis on Google’s Google Now services.
Of course with the Google Ara planned for 2015, could the Nexus 6 be the last Nexus phone?
