A lot of Android purists lost hope for Nokia’s first Android foray, the Nokia X, when they heard that it would instead run a forked version of Android that used Nokia’s own app store instead of the Google Play Store. That’s totally understandable, but being Android underneath, it was only a matter of time before we heard the words “Nokia X rooted” from the guys over at XDA. Not only is it rooted, it also has the Google Play Store, Google apps and Google Now Launcher installed onto it. Check out a video of Google Now Launcher running on the Nokia X:
There you have it: there’s hope for this device yet! If you’re interested in getting a Nokia X now, there’s a guide in the XDA Forums with more pictures (link down below) that will take you through how to root the Nokia X, which apparently has a locked bootloader of sorts. Once that’s done though, your Nokia X will run as the Android device it was born to be.
What do you think about the Nokia X getting rooted? Are you more convinced about getting one now? Let us know what you think in the comments.
