Samsung patent reveals augmented reality keyboard for Smartglasses

Previous rumours have suggested Samsung may be experimenting with a Google Glass style set of Smartglasses, but it’s all gone a bit quiet since then...until now.

According to SamMobile, the company has filed a patent for an augmented reality interface which utilises a device’s camera to interact with your hands. It appears it would project a keyboard onto your fingers and allow you to input text by pressing the letter keys with your thumbs.

The patent even shows a one-handed keyboard mode. It’s thought that the other interface elements might be accessed with hand gestures read by the camera.

“The patent was filed last year at the World Intellectual Property Organization and South Korea’s Korean Intellectual Property Office,” reports SamMobile.

Reports say Samsung has considered a Google-style voice input system but decided against it due to concerns over precision. It’s thought we could see Samsung’s Smartglasses, dubbed by some as the “Galaxy Glass”, in late 2014. It may even debut alongside the Galaxy Note 4, which is expected at IFA 2014 held in September in Berlin, Germany.
