Yotaphone Available In The UK For £419

The original Yotaphone is now available in the UK but it has quite a high price mark

If you’re a UK resident and have been waiting for the Yotaphone to be released, you’re in luck. The Yotaphone is now available in the UK. The Russian-made handset has been available in European markets for quite a while now and costs €499.

You can now get it directly from the official website for £419. It will soon launch in Portugal, Italy and Switzerland.

Not familiar with the Yotaphone? It’s a mobile phone with two screens. On the front is a 4.3-inch 720p display, while the rear is fitted with a 4.3-inch E-ink panel.

You can use the Yotaphone’s low-energy back display for notifications at a glance so you don’t have to turn on the more power-hungry front display. This means you’ll be saving yourself some battery. There’s a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor onboard with 2GB of RAM. It also runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

There’s a 13MP rear camera and a 1MP one of the front.

The company announced a second generation Yotaphone device at Mobile World Congress 2014. There's no word on whether the new version will be coming to the UK though. It depends how well the first version now sells.

The next-generation handset will include a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. There’s a 5-inch 1080p AMOLED display on the front and a 4.7-inch 540 x 960 e-ink display on the back.

The Yotaphone is a novel idea but we are sceptical on the pricing. It’s a high price for a mid-range device and the E-ink display, while novel, might not be enough to draw that kind of cash out of pockets. We are much more interested in the second-generation handset which will hopefully be with us by the end of the year.
