It was almost inevitable HTC would be working on a miniature version of its latest flagship, we just didn’t expect to see evidence it this soon. HTC’s One M8 mini will be coming to the UK as soon as May according to a new report. With time of writing being April 1, that means the HTC One M8 mini will be landing next month.
An anonymous source inside a UK retailer has confirmed the news to 3G.co.uk. The source then went on to claim the phone will feature the same aluminium unibody design, which isn't exactly suprising.
Naturally, it’ll sport a smaller 4.5-inch screen, though it’s currently unclear if it will have a 1080p or 720p resolution. As Sony's Xperia Z1 Compact proved, a 720p resolution would be sufficient at this scale, but the company also showed that a smaller model with the same premium specs has plenty of appeal. Rumours say Samsung's miniaturised Galaxy S5 will follow suit with a premium spec line-up rather than the reduced spec seen aboard the Galaxy S4 Mini
On the HTC One M8 mini there will also only be one rear facing camera, meaning the Duo Camera from the M8 will be left behind. The source didn’t provide any other specs for the handset and it's unclear whether HTC will downgrade some hardware to squeeze it into that smaller unibody.
Being an anonymous source it’s not confirmed information, so take it with a large chunk of salt. But, according to the report, this same source has provided details which have been accurate before.
If it’s true, that’s an incredibly fast turnaround at camp HTC, although by this stage it's likely flagships, mini versions and phablet versions are all being developed more-or-less in tandem by the big manufacturers.
