Apple has begun replacing the sleep/wake button on the iPhone 5 in selected markets

Apple has launched a replacement program for the iPhone 5. If you’ve got a faulty iPhone 5 sleep/wake button you can now get it replaced if you live in either the US or Canada.

Apple has begun offering the service because a “small percentage” of handsets, manufactured before March 2013, suffered from a fault. You can find the replacement program set up by Apple here.

The web page says Apple "has determined that the sleep/wake button mechanism on a small percentage of iPhone 5 models may stop working or work intermittently." If your serial number qualifies and appears to be broken you can send it back to Apple for a replacement. If you’re unsure whether your serial number qualifies, Apple has set up a quick tool to check on its website.

Replacements will arrive four to six days after receipt and will take place at the Apple Repair Center.

You can either bring it into an Apple store yourself or send it off. If you’ve broken the handset in any other way such as a crack through the screen you’ll also need to fix this up first – which Apple will also do, at a cost.

Have you experienced the problem on your iPhone 5? Would you like Apple to release this service in the UK? Let us know in the comments below.
