HTC, like every other mobile tech company on the planet, has made no bones about its interest in the wearables space, but now we might have the first insight into its smartwatch ambitions as reports emerge of the so-called HTC One Wear.
Reports from TK Tech News, based in HTC’s home of Taiwan, claim the company has been showcasing its smartwatch in the country and it may be en route for a launch around August or September.
It’s claimed to have a circular shaped design like the Moto 360 and two models are being considered – a premium metal version and a plastic one. This is similar to Samsung’s Gear 2 Neo and Gear 2 arrangement, as well as the Pebble and Pebble Steel.
No other details are currently known about the device, but if it’s being actively showcased in Taiwan already you can expect a lot more information to emerge in the coming weeks. There’s been no mention of an operating system but you can be almost certain it’ll be Android Wear, as HTC was specifically mentioned during Google’s Wear announcement as a partner for the software.
Naturally, with the name One Wear HTC is slotting this smartwatch in with its existing HTC One smartphone line, so we can probably expect some similar interface features and crossover capabilities between the One Wear and HTC’s phones. An expansion of Health services seems likely, what with it being all the rage, HTC included the Fitbit app on the One M8 so it’ll be interesting to see where it goes next.
