LG Will Release A Windows Phone 8.1 Handset In 2014

LG is to return to Windows Phone for the first time in four years, and here’s the first shot of the handset

When Windows Phone 7 launched in 2010, LG was on board to create a handset and it went down well. The company then skipped the Windows Phone 8 launch and there was no word of a return – until now. A leaked image from Twitter tipster @evleaks has revealed LG is working on an upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 handset.

It’s only an image so far, we don’t know anything which is under the hood just yet. From the tweet accompanying the photo it looks like the handset will be called or is at least codenamed the Uni8.

LG rumours of late have been focussed on the upcoming release of the LG G3. At present it is unclear whether LG's Windows Phone will be a high-end, mid-range or low-end affair. If we were to take a guess, though, we'd put cash on it being a very premium offering, similar to the Nokia Lumia 930.

LG will launch the LG G3 on May 27. Might we hear more about its Windows Phone offering then?

Microsoft previously announced LG would be creating a Windows Phone 8.1 handset when it announced the new operating system earlier this year. It also announced partners Huawei, Lenovo, Samsung, ZTE and more will be working on handsets in the future.

Even HTC is rumoured to be working on a new Windows Phone 8.1 handset.

Windows Phone 8.1 is expected to have a full release on June 24 alongside the Nokia Lumia 930 handset. For all the latest details on the new software update you should have a look at this piece here.
