Apple’s iOS 7 made blocking numbers easier than ever. It’s literally the tap of a couple of buttons, in fact, you can find out how exactly to do it from our user guide here. It’s really simple but it’s not nice to be on the receiving end.
Without knowing the tips below there’s no real way of telling whether your fellow iPhone user has just been ignoring your calls or if they’ve blocked you with the iOS 7 feature. Here’s how to find out which is which.
Just Ring The Number
Obviously if you get through to the person this time around you’ll know they haven’t blocked you and you’ve awkwardly got to think up a reason why you rang.
The way to tell whether you’ve been blocked is to listen to how many times it rings. If it rings once and then plays a message saying the number is “unavailable” and invites you to leave a message, you’ve been blocked.
The problem is a switched off iPhone or one on auto divert can also exhibit the same behaviour. If you try it a couple of times over a couple of days you’ll know for sure the phone hasn’t just been turned off.
If you don’t want to wait a while, just ring the same number from a different phone. If you want to hide your phone you can use 141 from a UK landline or your relevant code. If it doesn’t ring in the same way you’ll know for sure you’ve been shunned.
Or Text The Number
On iOS 7 it’ll tell you whether a message has been delivered. After you send your message off the number you’ll whether you’ve been blocked by this, keep an eye on the message and if it never says delivered you can know for sure you’ve been blocked.
Tip: If your number is blocked the iPhone won’t receive any of your missed calls, voicemails or text messages. It doesn’t send any notifications to the user.
