Samsung released its first Tizen based products earlier this year with its new series of wearables using the operating system. The Samsung Gear Fit, Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo all used the new operating system whilst all other Samsung products use Android.
A smartphone has been in the pipeline for a while but we now have the first details on the first handset – the Samsung Z. There’s no Galaxy in the title as that refers to their flagship Android series.
The Samsung Z has a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, alongside a 2.3GHz Quad-core processor on the inside. Memory wise it come with 16GB built in and microSD support for anything up to 64GB and then there’s 2GB of RAM as well. Camera wise there’s an 8MP on the back and a 2.1MP on the front.
The phone runs on Tizen 2.2.1 and features some flagship Samsung features including the Ultra Power Saving Mode, S Health 3.0 and Download Booster. There’s also a fingerprint sensor and you can customise the colour themes.
All the normal connectivity options are available including LTE Cat 4. The battery inside is a 2,600mAh. Samsung is claiming it is one of the most lightweight handsets the company has on offer at 136g and the dimensions come in at 138.2 x 69.8 x 8.5mm. It’ll also be available in both Black and Gold colour options.

The Samsung Z will be on show properly at the Tizen Developer Conference in San Francisco which opens up on June 3.
