iPhone 6 Production To Be Outsourced To Foxconn Robots

Foxconn, one of Apple’s largest manufacturers, is allegedly prepping an army of production bots

Foxconn is confirmed to be producing a good portion of the iPhone 6 units being prepped for Apple’s release later this year. We’ve also heard rumours of the Chinese manufacturer hiring over 100,000 new recruits to help make it all possible.

Now news has revealed Foxconn is preparing an army of assembly robots to help out with the task.

Each of these assembly robots comes at a cost of $20-25k each. Not cheap but each droid is also capable of creating an average of 30,000 devices per a year, meaning they each makes a little over 82 units per day.

Working 365 days a year for 24 hours, it seems like a Foxconn executives dream, so there’s no surprise the company is heading down this route. It does put those production line jobs in danger though.

The news came from a recent shareholder meeting in which the president and CEO of Foxconn revealed the robotic production line and how it would like to roll out the technology as soon as possible.

Foxconn has its work cut out though. These production line robots will need to be the top of the line kit, as Apple has some particularly strict quality standards it needs to adhere to.

This should all be taken with a large spoonful of salt though, nothing is set in stone just yet. All the way back in 2011 Foxconn suggested it already had 10,000 of these robots in operation and it would have almost a million by 2014. Something must have gone seriously wrong here for the company to now only want 30,000 by the end of 2014.

Rumours suggest the iPhone 6 will begin shipping in September. To read the full lowdown head over here.
