Microsoft has received plenty of flak over the years for the Windows Phone operating system, primarily these have been grumbles over its lack of apps and the way it struggles to get those already present updated as quickly as Android or iOS.
Rumours began to circulate back in 2013 that Nokia was working on an Android powered handset and all was finally unveiled in February this year with the announcement of the Nokia X brand.
But now we have it on good authority that Microsoft and Nokia are planning to launch the first Lumia handset powered by Android.
The Lumia brand is Nokia’s primary line of smartphones, which have been Windows Phone devices since the launch of the Lumia name. The news comes from trusted source @evleaks, which also revealed details about the Nokia X launch. The leakster is known for a great track record, and while there have been a few bloopers they're usually outed pretty quickly and corrected. So, for now, we have good reason to believe this latest tip is legit.

It seems odd that Microsoft would now be interested in making Android phones, we haven’t seen much of an inkling of it so far. When Nokia created the X brand, it felt like it was making sure it was distancing the Android handsets from its main Lumia brand title, while also creating a very Windows-feel Android build, as if to wean users on to full Windows Phone.
If it all turns out to be true, and there is in fact an Android Lumia device in the works, we expect it is going to be a high-end device. Microsoft will be able to use it to push its exclusive services such as Bing, Outlook, OneDrive and the like which are currently available on Nokia X devices. Nokia services such as Nokia Music and Here Maps, could also make the cut.
There’s no word on when this will be coming, it could still be a long way off. We will keep our eyes peeled for any more details though and be sure to bring them to you as soon as possible.
