Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPLightsAtNight

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes & hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a post announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.

The goal this weekend is to take creative photos and videos of lights at night. Some tips to get you started:

• As you plan your project, pay attention to whatever lights catch your eye. Neon signs, moonlight, street lamps and candles are all excellent starts.


• Shooting at night can be difficult. To prevent your photo or video from being too bright or grainy, tap the brightest part of your frame to adjust the exposure.


• For a more impressionistic feeling, experiment with capturing your photo or video out of focus. To do this, tap your screen to focus on something nearby and hold it until it locks. After you’ve locked it, frame a scene that’s farther away and it should be out of focus.


• Finally, for those Instagrammers celebrating Independence Day in the United States this weekend, fireworks shows and sparklers can also provide ample creative material.
