How To Set Up Google Chromecast

So you’ve finally gone out and picked up a Google Chromecast? Congratulations, you won’t be disappointed, just look how much we loved the Chromecast in our original review.

It’s nice and simple to set up as well, we’ll teach you here how to do it. This method will work with Android, iOS, Mac OS and Windows.

Plug In Your Chromecast

You need to unpack your streaming dongle and place it into the HDMI port on your TV. You may have another connector included that will extend the dongle and increase the Wi-Fi range, put it on if you wish.

You’ll then need to plug your device into the mains, use the plug to connect it all up and turn the power on. When you’re on the right HDMI channel your TV will then prompt you with a message stating “Set Me Up”.

Connect Your Smartphone/Tablet

Choose your device you want to use the Chromecast with. It can be a smartphone, a tablet or even a laptop. You need to make sure that device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the Chromecast to be using.

Head Online

On your device you want to head to chromecast.com/setup in the browser and follow the link to download the Chromecast app. It’ll take you to the appropriate app store and the app will be free. All you have to do is download it.

Set Up A New Chromecast

Once the app is finished downloading, open it up and press “set up a new Chromecast”. It’ll then scan for the Chromecast and it should find it automatically and connect itself up. You’ll then get a unique Chromecast code that appears on the TV, it’s just to make sure you’re connecting to the right device.

Name Your Chromecast

Put in your choice of name for your Chromecast. This is just for those who are connecting up to it so be as funny or as original as you feel appropriate. You’ll now be prompted to connect your Chromecast up to the same Wi-Fi network as your device. You’ll get a loading screen whilst it’s doing its thing.
