The mobile tech rumour mill is a bit of a minefield these days, while you can get plenty of reliable and believable information out of it there are always hoaxers out there looking to undermine things and exploit people’s enthusiasm...apparently just for the lolz.
The bigger a forthcoming product the bigger a target for hoaxers, and the closer a launch gets the more we have to be careful about sifting through the BS to expose the shiny nuggets of truth – or at least as much as we can, in all honesty this largely just boils down to approaching it all with a degree of scepticism and hoping for the best.
The latest leaked info from the quagmire comes in the form of a set of GFXBench benchmark results, picked up by both a Russian tech site and Twitter source @emtleaks. The benchmark shows results for a Nexus 5 (2014), implying that contrary to earlier rumours, the next Nexus smartphone will neither be called the Nexus 6 or Nexus X, but like the re-booted Nexus 7, will simply get a year tagged on the end in brackets.

The results show a 5.2in QHD display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor at 2.7GHz, it has an Adreno 420 GPU and 3GB of RAM, plus 32GB of onboard storage and both 12MP and 2MP cameras. Most of this spec line-up we have indeed seen before.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The software listed is Android 5.0, and unlike previous reports which suggested Android Lollipop or Android Lemon Meringue Pie, it would seem that following 4.4 KitKat Google has revived its partnership with Nestle and named the new build after another chocolate bar: Lion. It’s even got a little trademark symbol next to it.
So there you have it folks, for what it’s worth. Take it with a grain of salt, as we cannot verify the authenticity of the leak or the reliability of the leaksters. It may all be cobblers.
