Google Nexus fans have been waiting for a new tablet for a long time and the current word on the rumour mill says the company has a Nexus 8 or Nexus 9 in the works from HTC. Now it seems there’s a bit more evidence of the project, allegedly codenamed variously as Volantis and Flounder.
According to Twitter leakster @UPLeaks there are both Wi-Fi only and LTE capable variants on the way, something which fits with earlier leaks we’ve seen of a 4G model. The source claims the Wi-Fi model will see the widest distribution, including Korea and Japan, however, the LTE model will apparently come to a lot of regions too, with Europe, India, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Hong Kong and Russia all being name-dropped.

@UPLeaks also detailed some accessories which will arrive at launch, including a “Magic Cover” case in a range of colours and finishes (including leather). Interestingly there will allegedly be a keyboard case as well.

Earlier reports have indicated the Nexus 9 may be pricier than older Nexus tablets such as the Nexus 7, which fits with the price tags of subsequent Nexus phones going up gradually. A release date remains elusive, however, there’s some indication Android L 5.0 (aka Android Lemon Meringue Pie) will arrive in October. It’s thought the Nexus 6 (aka Nexus X) smartphone will be the debut device for that software, but it’s possible the Nexus 9 could arrive in tandem. Feasibly, however, it could arrive at a later point in the year, or even 2015. UPLeaks has previously claimed a launch will happen before October 9.
