Apple’s launch of iOS 8 has been a bit of a minefield for the company, with numerous reports of bugs, problems, and disgruntled users. The latest issue to add to the pile concerns Bluetooth connectivity.
According to MacRumors, the issue affects multiple versions of iOS 8, including the latest iOS 8.0.2, and brand new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets, so it’s not just a problem for older models being updated to the new software. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users have reported problems when trying to pair with Bluetooth speakers or headsets, as well as integrated car audio systems – car brands including Ford, Toyota, Hyundai, Mercedes, and BMW, have all been reported as having problems with connectivity on iOS 8.
“Now when I am connected via bluetooth, I place a call, and it says it's going over bluetooth, but it doesn't interrupt my car's music, and the audio doesn't play over the speakers," reports one user on MacRumours forums, "The only way I can talk to the person is if I press the Audio button on the phone and select speakerphone or iPhone as if it wasn't connected to the car.”
It’s claimed Apple’s support department is aware of the bug, while some reports indicate using the “Reset all Settings” when logged out of iCloud can fix the issue, though you do run the risk of losing Cloud data in doing this, so it’s not exactly advisable. It’s believed Apple is hard at work on update patches to fix multiple issues with iOS 8, so we expect this problem will be bundled in with forthcoming fixes being addressed in the next few updates. Some users with developer accounts have stated that the new build of iOS 8.1 they have access to apparently fixes the Bluetooth bug.
