According to reports Microsoft, is readying itself to launch a brand new Windows based smartwatch quite soon. Rumours previously suggested we would see a smartwatch from Microsoft launch over the summer but nothing arrived.
Now Forbes is reporting from a variety of sources that Microsoft will be launching a smartwatch in “the next few weeks” and it’ll be available before Christmas.
Not much is known about the features of the new smartwatch yet, but it’s expected to run on a Windows based system and come with a two-day battery life. So far no smartwatch has managed to nail the battery life aspect and if Microsoft managed to create one that lasted two whole days it’d be a big advantage.
A smartwatch from Microsoft will reportedly run on Windows software as well, but there hasn’t been a wearable OS from the company as of yet. It’s likely Microsoft will be working on its own OS to compete with the one on Apple Watch and Android Wear.
If the smartwatch arrives in the next few weeks it will take advantage of the Christmas rush and will beat the Apple Watch to market, which is expected to launch during early 2015.
During Spring 2014 an alleged Microsoft patent broke cover and revealed a smartband style design on the new smartwatch. If that patent is to be believed it will also come with a touchscreen interface and voice control.
Microsoft previously developed an Android Wear keyboard in which you draw every letter onto the touchscreen. It may explain why the company has been working on a keyboard for a small screen and released it on the Google Play Store.
