When Microsoft announced its forthcoming Windows 10 platform there was a fair bit of confusion, not least because we’re currently on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, and it left many questioning where Windows 9 had gone.
Aside from this though, was a far more important question; Microsoft made it very apparent that Windows 10 would be a true cross-platform system spanning PCs, Tablets and Smartphones, but did not clarify whether we would only see the software on a new generation of purpose-built devices, or if we would see existing products making the leap via an upgrade. That’s important, because previously we have seen Microsoft Windows-based smart devices left behind on older versions – this occurred during the switch from Windows Phone 7 to Windows Phone 8 and left many disappointed users in its wake.
Now though, we have some good news from the big M to put your mind to rest. Microsoft took to its official Twitter account to declare that all Lumia smartphones currently running Windows Phone 8 will be boosted up to Windows 10 following its launch in 2015.
We still don’t know exactly when in 2015 Windows 10 will arrive though, Microsoft merely stated in its initial announcement that it would be appearing in “late 2015” and after the company’s annual Build conference, apparently taking place about midway through the year.
Still, it’s certainly good to see that Microsoft has learned from its mistakes and is seeking to make amends with disgruntled Windows Phone users.
