“A tip for a crisp color edit is to start with a clear blue sky and then find interesting subjects to shoot with the sky as a backdrop,” says Australian Instagrammer Tara Wells (@rarabro). On her Instagram account, she shares a fusion of minimalist photography with pop-art color edits with the #killerminimal hashtag.

Living in Bathurst, a small countryside town west of Sydney, Tara developed a passion for color editing as a way to lift her mood and bring her surrounding environment to life. Once she started the #killerminimal project, she discovered many other inspiring community members who embrace similar aesthetics and ideas, like Matt Crump (@mattcrump), who later started one of Tara’s favorite hashtags #candyminimal.

“Color editing has definitely changed my view of the world,” explains Tara. She further acknowledges, “I’m constantly keeping my eye out for interesting places and moments that I can turn into a color palette of minimalism, and I always take a moment to take it all in to enjoy it before I start snapping.”
