Creating Collage Art with @qta3

“When I started sharing my work with the community, I wanted to show the extraordinary among the many real and everyday photos on Instagram,” says a Tokyo collage artist who goes by the pseudonym Q-TA (@qta3). With his own interpretation of surrealism, he brings pieces of different images together to create bizarre pop graphics.

Q-TA finds most of his materials from vintage encyclopedias and magazines, although he uses both analog and digital methods to create the collages. He further explains, “I try not to spend a lot of time in the process—just go with the feel, keep the imagination flowing and shape out the work.”

These mysterious yet alluring graphics have sparked the curiosity of many who come across his work, resulting in collaborative opportunities with brands, contracted art for album covers and even a few published books of his own. Despite his success, Q-TA aims to stay humble in his work. “I don’t want to let my messages stand out in my work,” he says. “I cut down the amount of information as much as I can, so the viewer can feel the unusual nature of the collages and interpret their own stories.”
