Local Lens: The Heart of the River Nile with @farouk_design

In this series, we let local Instagrammers show you their favorite places to shoot in their city. Experience Cairo through the lens of a local by following @farouk_design and explore some of his favorite locations through the links below.

“The River Nile is the soul of Egypt and Egyptians,” says Cairo Instagrammer Ahmed Farouk (@farouk_design). “It represents peace of mind, romance, beauty, history, our good nature—and it is the only river here.” Ahmed captures scenes on the waters of the Nile as well as the nearby Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea. “Water can reflect simplicity, as well as power and fun, and so many other things just like human moods. Who doesn’t stare at the sea and contemplate?” he asks. “Although it’s the biggest thing on Earth, it’s peaceful.”

Some of Ahmed’s favorite locations to shoot the calm Egyptian waters include the coastal town of Dahab located on the Red Sea, particularly the beach at Blue Hole: “It’s calm and nature is everywhere between great mountains, desert and sea.” He also enjoys perusing the alleys of Cairo’s Khan El-Khalili bazaar for its Egyptian history and faces.

In terms of finding good locations, Ahmed is keen to stress anyone can find something special with a good eye. “There is no ugly location, it’s all about how you conceive and capture it because I believe that creativity is endless.”
