Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPnearandfar

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes and hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a post announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.

The goal this weekend is to capture creative photos and videos that feature strong elements in both the foreground and background. Some tips to get you started:

• As you compose, aim to scatter objects or people at different distances throughout the frame. This will draw your viewer’s eye deeper into the scene.


• Keep scale in mind. Even giant objects can appear small from far away. Use this to your advantage and don’t be afraid to play.


• Think of your foreground and background as telling two parts of a story. Seek out subjects in their natural environments for a very clear theme or juxtapose an unexpected combination of subject and background for a more surprising result.

PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPnearandfar hashtag only to photos and videos taken over this weekend and only submit your own photographs and videos to the project. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged image or video taken over the weekend is eligible to be featured Monday morning.
