Sony have taken to Twitter to clarify the situation around when their latest flagship Z3 device and the earlier Xperia Z2 will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop.
According to Sony, the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 will begin to see Android 5.0 Lollipop beginning early 2015.
@SamTomelleri We’ll start the upgrade at beginning of 2015 for the core Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series.

With the Xperia Z4 rumoured to be in the pipeline, it makes sense for Sony to ensure their devices are kept up to date for the best experience possible.
