Asus has just pipped the industry big guns to the post as the first manufacturer to announce a smartphone with 4GB of RAM onboard - as much as you’d find in a typical laptop. The company took to CES 2015 to reveal the ZenFone 2.
The handset boasts a 5.5in full HD IPS display along with a 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom processor clocked at 2.3GHz. Additionally it supports dual-SIM cards with connectivity for 4G LTE at up to 150mbps, and Wi-Fi. Meanwhile there’s a 3,000mAh battery cell with quick charging tech that can bring it from dead to 60% in about 40 minutes. Naturally it’ll be loaded with Android 5.0 Lollipop, but it won’t be untouched as Asus will put its own ZenUI on top. Lastly there are both 13MP and 5MP cameras embedded in the back and front panels respectively.
The real gem here though is the price point, Asus says the ZenFone 2 will arrive in the US from March. There will be a 2GB RAM model for $199, while the 4GB will be more expensive - Asus has not yet revealed a price or wider availability but it seems a fairly safe bet that it won’t be too much steeper on cost and we expect it’ll see an international launch too.
