Coming Home to the Forest with @pietertenhoopen

Photographer Pieter Ten Hoopen (@pietertenhoopen) was born in the Netherlands, but moved to Sweden so long ago that he considers himself both Dutch and Swedish—except in matters of soccer—in which he remains fully Dutch. “I was working as an old-fashioned lumberjack in the forest with a motor saw,” he says, describing his early years in Sweden, and his path to photojournalism. “I love the forest but I realized I had other dreams and made the jump to photography.” On Instagram, he records his trail in muted tones, spanning scenes of ruin, survival, as well as moments of quiet, and open spaces. “I travel most of my working days, and to be honest, most of all right now, I’m longing for my house on the Swedish countryside.” He adds, “I love to work all over the globe but need my dose of snowy landscapes and stillness.”
