It’s a bit of a sad thing that so much of the interesting stuff at CES 2015 this year has been the exclusive territory of private showcases for invited partners and investors, according to reports both Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Sony’s Xperia Z4 have received this treatment rather than being displayed for all to see. We’re left scraping up rumours and leaks from these limited entry exposes.
The latest is LG, rather than the expected LG G4, however, it seems LG is following in the footsteps of Samsung with a handset sporting a Galaxy Note EDGE style side panel display. It goes one further than that though - we’ve heard a lot of rumours suggesting Samsung is prepping an alternate version of the Galaxy S6 with edge displays along both sides and it seems LG is doing the same thing with this new device.
A Korean news source got hold of some images leaked by an individual who attended LG’s secret meeting. In the pictures we can clearly see the curved edge display and LG’s showcase stand which describes it as a 6in HD “Active Bending” Plastic OLED setup. It’s thought this is an early proof of concept model, however, and it may be some time before a market-ready iteration appears - this one only has a 1280x720p resolution, which doesn’t compare favourably to Samsung’s 1440p resolution on the Note EDGE.
More as we hear it.
