The Feeling of Flying with Pro Snowboarder @jamieanderson

To keep up with one of the world’s best snowboarders as she pursues gold at the X Games Aspen, follow @jamieanderson and @xgames on Instagram.

Jamie Anderson (@jamieanderson) doesn’t just fly down mountains on her snowboard. She truly gets airborne. “I literally feel like I’m flying,” says Jamie, who is the world’s top female slopestyle rider and the sport’s first-ever Olympic gold medalist. “I love hitting jumps. It brings me so much joy.”

Snowboarding for Jamie began as a family affair. Raised near Lake Tahoe, California, Jamie was homeschooled with her seven brothers and sisters, which she says allowed them to essentially grow up on the mountain, sledding and snowboarding almost everyday in winter. “I followed my older sisters footprints. They led the path and helped make the dream a reality.”

This week Jamie will be navigating the obstacle course of jumps, rails, and wallrides at X Games Aspen (@xgames) in Aspen, Colorado for a chance to claim her 10th medal there since starting on the professional circuit at age 13. “It’s one of the biggest competitions of the year, so there’s definitely pressure,” says Jamie. But if there’s something she’s learned in her decade as a pro snowboarder, it’s overcoming the challenge of self-doubt. “It’s hard to set big goals because it’s scary to fail. But it’s amazing how powerful our minds are. When we trust ourselves, we can accomplish our biggest goals.”
