Life in the Wilds of Montana with Park Ranger @ralfafara
For more scenes of Becca Alfafara’s life as a park ranger living in the beautiful wilderness of Montana’s Glacier National park, follow @ralfafara on Instagram.
Becca Alfafara’s (@ralfafara) backyard is one million acres of protected pristine mountain wilderness. As a park ranger with the National Park Service, Becca lives with her husband inside Montana’s Glacier National Park. It’s a landscape so rugged and so beautiful that it has earned the nickname “Crown of the Continent.” “This place is one of the most amazing landscapes in the world,” Becca says. “It’s important for me to get out all the time and enjoy the park so that I don’t take it for granted.”
But living in such a remote region, especially in winter, is not without challenges. Going out to eat or getting fresh produce requires a three-hour drive, one-way. Plus, she lives amidst the park’s native predators. “There is something really wild about hearing wolves howling or knowing that a grizzly bear is sharing the same trail as you,” she says. Even still, she values the perspective it gives her life. “These large animals help me realize that I’m not the top of the food chain or the biggest thing out there.”
