Portraits of Dublin’s Gritty Charm with @lorcanfinnegan
To see more of Lorcan’s street portratis from Dublin, follow @lorcanfinnegan on Instagram.
“I am drawn toward great faces. It’s like casting a film that doesn’t exist,” says Irish filmmaker Lorcan Finnegan (@lorcanfinnegan). Exploring the historic streets of Dublin, Ireland, Lorcan makes captivating portraits that reveal the changing dynamics of the city. “The #dublinfaces series is like a set of characters that I feel represents the city. It’s a very old city with a lot of gritty personality and characters but it’s also changing quite rapidly, so I feel compelled to capture the Dublin I know and love while it’s still around.”
Lorcan is also drawn to a more experimental form of portraiture with his #backoftheheadportrait series. “Sometimes you get an impression of somebody from behind and think you can picture their face, and in some ways it doesn’t matter what their face is like” he says. “If the back of their head gives you a sense of their character, then it’s just like a portrait.”
