The photographer Alec Soth (@littlebrownmushroom), is a man of many mediums. “One of the huge upsides to photography is the way it is so easily translated into different forms,” says Alec, who lives in Minneapolis and is best known for his mysterious photographs of ordinary America. “I love being able to work for both ‘The New York Times Magazine’ and my own self-published newspaper. I’m also grateful to have a large print on a gallery wall and the same image on a smartphone. One experience doesn’t cancel out the other.”

Alec currently has a show open at the Sean Kelly Gallery (@seankellyny) in New York and the Fraenkel Gallery (@fraenkelgallery) in San Francisco. “Photography online is like streaming digital music — it is an invaluable tool to being exposed to a lot of work that will hopefully prompt one to dig deeper,” Alec says. “I think of books and prints as being like vinyl records — a way to experience the work as an object. The exhibition, finally, is like the concert — a live, one-of-a-kind event.”
