Collecting Time with @jpzandonai

João Pedro Zandonai (@jpzandonai) has always been a collector. “My parents were the type that preserved family treasures belonging to past generations,” says the 26-year-old video producer, who was born and lives in Rio Grande do Sul, a state in southern Brazil. “As a kid, I learned to take care of my things and was always looking for something new to collect. Old toys and objects from other cultures are still among my favorites.”
João Pedro’s passion for vintage articles is not purely aesthetic. “I love the comfort and smell of old things. I am fascinated by objects from other eras, which belonged to different people and possess their own stories.” Coincidentally, João Pedro’s love for photography is also something he collected from his father, who made sure his son grew up around art and films. “I remember the first time I watched Hitchcock’s Rear Window. I realized the incredible power the camera gives James Stewart’s character, who is in a wheelchair. From that day on, I began taking pictures and never stopped.”
Through his photography, João Pedro has found a way to bring some of these objects and their stories to life. “Photography is the only way to freeze a millisecond and eternalize the moment. Photographing these objects is a way to interact with them, placing them at center stage.”
