Great news for our football fans this week as Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and Sony Mobile Communications announced a global partnership as Official Partners of the UEFA Champions League.
The confirmed partnership will run over the next 3 years for seasons 2015 to 2018 and will include the UEFA Super Cup 2015, 2016 and 2017 as well as the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final and UEFA Youth League Finals.
The new deal will not only incorporate our pals over at PlayStation (the current long-standing Official Gaming Partner) but also us, Sony Mobile. We’ll be bringing our innovative range of Xperia smartphones, tablets, unique SmartWear products, new engaging experiences and content for millions of football fans around the world – so stay tuned.
From new partnerships to new awards now as Xperia Z3 has been crowned best Android smartphone in What Hi-Fi’s 2015 best smartphone awards. Based upon the last 12 months What Hi-Fi’s in-depth device reviews, the awards look to break down the stand out smartphones in today’s busy market place – picking out winners based on the best suited for users needs.
We’re over the moon to have been crowned this year’s Android winner and with judges highlighting Xperia Z3’s standout features including 2-day battery life, design and High-Resolution Audio capabilities, it’s something certainly worth shouting about.
Our Sony Pictures team have also had something to be happy about this week. In light of the release of the upcoming movie “Pixel”, the Sony Pictures team decided to celebrate the 35th birthday of one of the films main stars – Pac-Man. In honour of the yellow pixel’s fame, the team sent the gaming icon out to space to mark 35 years since his initial launch in Japan back in 1980.
Sony’s latest action comedy “Pixels” (coming to screens this summer) reimagines a host of vintage video games characters as they battle an impressive cast including Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, after aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them. The trailer’s generated over 34 million views worldwide in its first 24 hours online, so whether you’re a video gamer or a movie buff, it’s definitely worth checking out!

From movies to music now as The Foo Fighters have also been busy making their own short film this week to celebrate 2015’s Record Store Day.
Record Store Day came into being in 2007 when over 700 independent stores in the USA came together to celebrate their unique culture and this year Frontman Dave Grohl joined forces with Sony’s Action Cam to capture the band’s unique intimate performance at Record Connection in Niles, Ohio.
The one-day festivities bring together independently own record stories and artists to celebrate the art of music and the band’s documentary captures the best moments from their perspective of the day’s celebrations. Check it out below:
That’s it from us, have a great weekend!
