Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPforeveryoung

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes and hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a post announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.

No matter how old we are, there’s an inner child in all of us. The assignment this weekend is to use your camera to be as playful as possible and make photos and videos that unlock your youthful creative energy. Our inspiration for this challenge comes from Los Angeles-based photographer Tierney Gearon (@tierneygearon), an acclaimed artist whose childlike excitement for adventure and spontaneity guides her creative practice. “My mind works very similar to a child’s mind,” says Tierney. “I live moment to moment.” Along with her children and family friends, Tierney is constantly adventuring out with props and art supplies to make ordinary moments into extraordinary and fun art projects. How does Tierney stay so young at heart? “By saying yes to as much as I can.”

Here are some tips from Tierney to get you started:

  • Set up something playful with friends and do something silly.
  • Add colorful elements by wearing blocks of bright colors or using props.
  • Experiment with different angles to see how it changes perspective.
  • Have fun and see where your imagination takes you.

PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPforeveryoung hashtag only to photos taken over this weekend and only submit your own photographs to the project. Any tagged image taken over the weekend is eligible to be featured Monday morning.
