App of the Week: 30 Day Fitness

APP OF THE WEEK

Lack of time, too tired, the dog ate your gym membership: these are just a few excuses plenty of us come up with to avoid working out and getting regular exercise. It’s far easier to stay committed to these excuses than it is to change our tune and commit to movement, but there are some apps out there that can make getting regular exercise feel like a manageable task.

One of those is 30 Day Fitness from Foamy Media Ltd. I recently started using this app and have found its videos and challenges simple but effective in getting me to move each day and make progress toward being healthier.

The app features five different sections including a main Dashboard, Challenges, Exercises, your Profile, and Settings. You do have to create an account or log in via your Facebook or Twitter account to access the app.

The Dashboard shows you all the Challenges you’re currently working to complete and the details of your progress in each challenge. It’s also where you note the start and finish of your workout each day.

Challenges are categorized into muscle groups including arms, core, and legs, with an added category for strength-focused challenges. Full-body workouts are available for a small additional cost in the Extra+ category of the Challenges menu.

If you want to try a particular challenge but are unsure how to perform a movement, you can go to the Exercises section for tutorials. Each exercise has a short video demonstration, written step-by-step instructions, and tips to help you get the most out of that movement.

The Profile section is very simple, only displaying your name and a profile photo you upload yourself. You can edit your name, email address, password, and add a bio if you wish.

In Settings, you can add and change reminders for each of your Challenges, turn on and off push notifications, clear your completed and scheduled Challenges, and log out of the app entirely.

The wonder of an app like 30 Day Fitness is that it takes the thinking out of working out and also makes exercising less intimidating – if you’re focusing on a couple challenges, you’re working toward the goal of completing those challenges in bite-size, manageable steps. App notes claim that new challenges are added every week, which means there’s an ever-growing library of workouts for you to try.

I paid $2.06 USD for the app and, so far, I think it’s been worth the investment. Give 30 Day Fitness a try if you need a nudge to start pursuing a healthier lifestyle, or let us know if you’re already using it! What apps do you use to help you stay on track with getting regular exercise?

The App of the Week is a series in which the blog team will try out apps and share their thoughts on those that catch their eye. If any partner apps are showcased, we’ll be sure to let you know!
