At the Intersection of Design and Collage: Adam Hale’s Haute Couture-Inspired Art

For their haute couture show in Paris, designers Viktor & Rolf invited collage artist Adam Hale (@the.daily.splice) to create art inspired by their collection. Adam was a fitting collaborator — each look Viktor & Rolf (@viktor_and_rolf) showed this season was made of elements from past collections, reworked to make new garments. “I’ve been hugely influenced by the originality and movement of their previous work, and have spliced together components from different shows,” says Adam, who lives in London. “They have a way of bringing life to inanimate objects.” For Adam, the worlds of fashion and collage are never that far apart. “Collage is the recycling of particular parts of a previous generation in order to build something new and original,” he says. “What interests me most at the intersection of design and collage is that it never ends – creativity breeds creativity.”
