Shayla Mitchell’s (@makeupshayla) interest in makeup was sparked while working in the men’s section of a department store. “I used to always see the girls in the makeup section. I looked up to them,” says Shayla. After working as a makeup artist at a few stores, she began posting photos of herself in makeup to grow her freelance clientele. A blossoming side project turned into a full-time beauty-blogging business; today, Shayla shares her favorite looks, products and tutorials with her followers. “Beauty is like art to me, and makeup is a way of expressing myself. It’s therapeutic,” Shayla says. “If I’m in a bubbly mood, I might wear brighter lipstick, and if I feel sassy, I may have a smoky eye. You can tell my mood by my makeup.”
