Instagram @music’s Monthly Hashtag Project: #MHPlyrical

Monthly Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes and hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @music on Instagram.

The goal of this month’s hashtag project, #MHPlyrical, is to turn your favorite song lyrics into a creative photo or video. The project is inspired by the work of photographer Nicola Antonio Espósito (@esposin), who creates surreal images based on his favorite songs, such as this image inspired by lyrics from the Coldplay song “Yellow.”

“It was love at the first hearing,” says Nicola. “I especially love this part: ‘I came along / I wrote a song for you / And all the things you do / And it was called yellow.’ I made this photo thinking of a romantic person who is not afraid to show his feelings and celebrate love in every sense.”

To get started, focus on the mood of the song you select — whether happy and bright, or more serious and dark — to help you choose the setting and time of day to make your picture. Then, pick out specific lyrics from the song to create your image from (and include them in your caption!). Nicola recommends being playful with it: “My advice is to not be so literal.”

PROJECT RULES: Please add the #MHPlyrical hashtag only to photos and videos taken this month and only submit your own. Any tagged visual taken this month is eligible to be featured. If you use music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights.
