Everyone is trying to get somewhere. No one knows this truth better than a NYC yellow taxicab driver. “The space in the back of a yellow cab serves the entire world,” says Yaw Addae (@ridingyellow). The Bronx-based photographer, who arrived from Ghana in 1995, started driving a taxi to make money and keep a flexible schedule, ideal for his creative pursuits. But the window into the back of the cab, and the diversity of passengers sliding in, led the way to Yaw’s “Riding Yellow” portrait project. In showing our differences, his motivation is to share a message of harmony and respect: “We all influence one another — directly or indirectly. It would be so much easier if we could all respect one another and the roles we play in life — from the doctor to the delivery man to the dry cleaner and, of course, the yellow cab driver.”
