Designer Tanya Taylor’s Collections Always Begin on a Canvas

For designer Tanya Taylor (@tanyataylor), each new collection begins on a canvas. “Painting is when I feel the most free and imaginative,” says Tanya, who showed her latest collection at New York Fashion Week on Friday. “It allows me to experiment with color and shapes; I feel more fearless building a collection after exercising my ideas on a canvas.” Tanya’s approach is freeing in other ways, too. “What is really cool about developing prints is I don’t have to find fabrics that say what I am thinking — I can make them!” the designer says. “That’s what I love about head-to-toe print: it’s human-scale art that tells a story exactly as I imagined.”
