“I’m looking for details, scene setters and a sense of place — plus the detail that connects things,” says Gerik Parmele (@gerik), a former photojournalist-turned-video storyteller. Gerik, who lives in Columbia, Missouri, creates mini-documentaries, expressing a theme of his day. “It’s a creative outpouring,” Gerik says. “I’m finding inspiration around me, turning my camera towards it and trying to craft a story of what’s in front of me at the time, without any agenda.” His tip for photographers experimenting with video? “Don’t change your style of seeing visually, but open your ears more and try to think about the sound.”
