When Apple introduced the iPhone 7 this year the pissed off a whole hell of a lot of people by removing the standard 3.5mm headphone jack from the device. The only good thing about the removal was it wasn’t a surprise–it had long been predicted in the rumor mill. Announcing the removal of the headphone jack, Apple’s reasoning was that they had the “courage” to remove a port that hadn't been updated in over 50 years. Some scoffed at this as everyone knows Apple seems to be intent on reducing as many ports on its devices as it can.
However, there are some advantages to the headphone jack’s removal. Because users now need to opt for either Bluetooth earphones or Lightning earphones they’ll at least be getting an all-digital connection. That means the transmission either works right or not at all. That’s unlike the analogue headphone jack, which often times could deliver suboptimal audio quality. And though Apple at least included its new Lightning EarPods with the iPhone 7, some people still like to go with third-party alternatives, which may physically fit better in their ears, or have a design that better meshes with their personal style.
Whatever the reason, if you’re in the market for affordable Lightning earphone alternatives, you should definitely check out the models below.
