Chasing Light with Photographer Chandan Khanna

When Chandan Khanna (@khannachandan) was in his early 20s he was on a comfortable path studying business in New Delhi, but he wasn’t satisfied. “I went home and discussed it with my dad and mom,” Chandan says. “He’s a businessman, she’s a businesswoman. I told them that I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but business school was really not my cup of tea and I needed to try something else. It turns out, photography was that something else.”
Just three years later, Chandan is now a professional photojournalist, and this week he was back in New Delhi covering the traditions and rituals of #Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. He recalls the moment he knew he’d chosen the right path: “I found myself getting up at 4 o’clock in the morning to catch a certain light with my camera, and I realized that I would not get up that early for anything else,” Chandan says, laughing. “Nothing I learned in business school could have made me that happy.”
