Patrick-Earl Barnes (@deepartist) used to clip and collect newspaper and magazine articles and paste them into three-ring binders to use as coffee table books. Those humble beginnings led him to collage and decoupage; he soon began crafting a variety of characters straight from his imagination, creating a style he refers to as “deep folk.” “I draw without thinking about who they are but who they can and will be,” says the 52-year-old artist from Shreveport, Louisiana, about his colorful cutouts. “I have always had my own way of thinking and style.”
