News anchor Anderson Cooper (@andersoncooper) has always been interested in US elections, but it wasn’t until 2004 that he began to cover them as a major part of his job at CNN (@cnn). “It was incredibly exciting to get to go to the conventions for the first time,” he says. “To witness history being made is a great privilege, and I am still excited by each election I cover.”

Anderson believes the most important role of the media during an election is to accurately cover the candidates and their policies. “You want to inform people about the candidates and give them facts so they can make up their own minds about how they want to vote,” he says. “As a viewer, I’m not interested in the political opinions of reporters or anchors, I am interested in facts.”
